Number Portability Routing

Invite’s Number Portability routing service ensures that all calls to ported numbers are given the correct routing information, reducing the costs for transiting and terminating national calls.

The service is based on the All Call Query (ACQ) method. It means that for every originating national call, Invite will perform a lookup to check if the number is ported. If it is ported, the appropriate routing information is returned and the VoIP Service Provider can thereby reduce interconnection costs for unnecessary transit calls and do not have to pay the incumbent operator to perform the CRDB lookups. It is also then possible for the Service Provider to charge their customers the correct price for the call. This is particularly important in the case of ported mobile numbers.

Invite Networks VoIP routing platforms are connected to the Central Reference Database (CRDB) in the country and we update our databases and platforms according to country preferences. Invite’s iNode is configured either as a SIP Redirect or a SIP Proxy server. If the number is ported, the Operator ID according to the CRDB is included in the return message.

Thanks to Invite Networks’ service, Voice Service Providers can reduce their interconnection costs for unnecessary transit calls and do not have to pay the PSTN operator to perform the NP lookups. The number analysis in the softswitch/server/gateway can also be simplified.

Invite Networks has successfully dealt with various forms of Number Portability since 2001. The different forms of Number Portability we support to date are:

  • Fixed NP
  • Mobile NP
  • Local NP
  • NP for SMS

NP is often combined with lookup of the E.164 National Numbering Plan, to provide a complete service for all domestic calls, whether they are ported or not. If the number is not ported, the returned routing information will reflect the national numbering plan.

Invite’s iNode uses the SIP protocol to communicate with our customer’s softswitches, gateways or proxy servers. It is compliant with IETF Standard RFC 3261.
