VoIP Peering
Today, calls that originate in one VoIP network and terminate in another VoIP network are seldom routed over a pure IP network. These calls are almost always routed via a media gateway to the PSTN and then through another media gateway to the terminating VoIP network. It is in many ways better to connect the VoIP networks together allowing the call to be transported over IP all the way. This is called VoIP interconnect or VoIP peering. Invite uses the term VoIP peering.
